Good with Caveats Feb 20, 2011
By Panochey We are using this to track my mother who is in hospice in her bedroom. Here are some facts that may influence your decision to as to whether to buy this unit or a different one. Pros: Inexpensive. Does the job it claims to do. Picks up even subtle sounds. Cons: Does not charge battery. So you are either using it powered, or running it off the un-rechargeable battery, or have it off. At 49MHz, it's "buzzy". Has what could be a very annoying hum to try to sleep by. Also, it is extremely sensitive to RFI, (radio frequency interference). Please read the following: If you have an I-phone, you will not be happy about how poorly the Safety 1st Sound View Monitor and your Apple device cohabit the same space. The Safety 1st Sound View Monitor is sensitive to RFI as subtle as your finger working a touchpad on your laptop.
On another note, please bear in mind that the Safety 1st Sound View Monitor DOES NOT include or involve a "View Monitor". There is no "View" or visual to this thing, it's strictly audio.
As another commenter reported, if you are going to rely on this thing to live off of theoretical recharges of the battery, you are in for a disappointment coupled with the added cost of buying a lot of batteries, that by the way, require a screwdriver to get to. So as long as you are NOT planning to use its battery function often and just need to listen in on another room, and can sleep with a certain amount of "white" noise in the background, then this unit is the one for you. If you have issues with any of the aforementioned limitations, look elsewhere.
For my part, we received this as a gift from someone who had outgrown the need, so our "buy-in cost" was negligible, but the issues with the I-phone may render its life with me short. Also, my sister, who is tag-teaming my mother's care, has issues with the background noise level. Caveat Emptor.

The one we bought was a dud. Mar 12, 2010
By Holly L. Wells After reading the reviews, I bought it anyway because we had a good experience with this brand of monitors in the past. I have come to believe it is hit or miss with this type of monitor. Ours was a dud. It must be the luck of the draw. I tried all of the trouble shooting suggestions and nothing worked.

Too many batteries Aug 29, 2009
By Teresa Robbins This monitor not only has to much statitic but it goes through one 9 volt battery every few days and we don't use it any time execpt when the baby is taking her nap. 9 volt are probably the most expensive battery. Invest in a nicer model and you'll save money in the end.

A lot of static feedback. Aug 20, 2009
By Jenny This monitor works ok but it has a lot of static feedback and it's impossible to sleep with it on... otherwise you can hear your baby if he or she cries or moves plus a ton of static. Spend the extra money and buy a better monitor.
