Pluses and Minuses Versus "Health Circle Quick-Rail Suction Cup Bath Rail" Jul 11, 2008
By ReviewerWhoPrefersToBeAnonymous I have 4 inch tiles in my shower, and so can't use products like the Bridge Medical Single Grip Portable Grab Bar. Instead, I bought this product and compared it with Health Circle Quick-Rail Suction Cup Bath Rail, White, 20" Long.
The official title on the box is "MHI Safe-er-Grip Bathtub & Shower Handle 17 Inches Long." The UPC code on the box is 3676810255, and "10255" is repeated four times on the box as though it's the model number. The UPC code was covered by a sticker "X000097Q6N Mommy's Helper Extra-Long Safer Grip." The outside of the box gives illustrated instructions, and a piece of paper inside gives instructions in English. Nowhere is there advice such as "for non-porous surfaces only," "clean and dry the surface before attaching," "avoid grout lines, " etc.
The unit itself is smooth all over and is attractively designed, with a graceful curve. The top part is off-white, with green levers. The bottom part is greenish-gray. There's a warning sticker ("..balance assist only...") and raised letters ("CONFIRM ATTACHMENT BEFORE USE...") in small print on the underside of the handle. I measured the length to be 16-1/2" and the distance between the centers of the 3-7/8" suction cups to be 12-1/2". Because of the 4" tiles, the only way I could mount the bar and avoid grout lines was diagonally at 45 degrees to the floor (two tiles to the side and two tiles up). When the suction cups were activated, I couldn't pull the item off the wall horizontally (didn't try to put all my weight on it).
Overall, the product seems sound. Advantages compared with the Health Circle product: more attractive, less expensive, shorter (if you want to take it on a trip). Disadvantages: Instructions aren't as good, and its lack of ribs may make it feel more slippery to some people. Buy this from Amazon.com!

It works on 4" tiles and I like it Jan 14, 2009

We ordered the Safe-er-Grip by MHI Mommy's Helper from Amazon. We bought the 17" model. Initial impressions are that it is basically exactly what we wanted. It is substantial with some heft to it. The feel of the handle is excellent and gives a great grip. We have 4" tiles and it works both vertically and horizontally. Based on another review in here we had thought that we would have to mount it on a slant but that turned out not to be the case. Also we tried the Amazon Prime shipping and that worked exactly as advertised and in 2 days it was here as promised. We cleaned the tiles and stuck it on and presto bingo it is very solid. Naturally you wouldn't want to use it to support your weight except in an emergency fall but it would. Very impressed both with the price from Amazon and the product itself. We had tried a cheaper advertised on tv grip that we bought from Bed Bath and Beyond for about $13 but that did not work on 4" tiles and was not the product we wanted. We also purchased from Amazon the 24" Health Circle Quick Rail and it also is an excellent product. The 24" Quick Rail had to be mounted on a slant on 4" tiles although the advertising claimed it was engineered for 4,6 and 8" tiles. Actually at 24" and on a slant it also is a wonderful safety product and is also of high quality. Very happy with both products purchased through Amazon.

Works well on smooth Corian surfaces Mar 12, 2008
By Gerard Olivarez This balance safety bar works well on smooth Corian walls (with no grout lines). It has been almost two months and we have not had to re-apply sunction. It really stays in place. One important note: it is intended for BALANCE only and should not be used to support your weight. We are very pleased with this, especially since it is quite less expensive than the alternatives.

Good but not Great Dec 16, 2008
By Dennis P. Collins This product has it's advantages. The most notable is that it is removable and that it can be re-positioned. The disadvantage of this unit is that once you install it you have to recheck every time before you use it again. I made the mistake thinking that it was securely mounted only to find that one end had lost it's suction.

very useful Jun 23, 2008

We have two of these now. I bought my husband one when he came home from rehap recently and he liked it so much that he ordered a second one. He uses them to steady himself in the shower. I don't believe you can put much weight on them but for balance they are very useful.
